Shine Food Machinery recently completed a full fit-out of the 24 hour 7 days a week operational restaurant and support facilities for the EDF Energy power station . This building is located in the town centre of Bridgwater to serve the semi-permanent workers who are building the power station.

It is believed to be handed over to the Town’s college as a resource at its end of initial purpose in 10 years, showing EDF’s commitment to the community.

Shine commenced the project in 2017 and were requested to produce all services drawings in Revit for what was to be a BIM installation. Full kitchen walk throughs were produced by Shine in house designers to enable the client to envisage the final installation. Laing O’Rourke, being the main contractor, and having  developed the relationship and understood the work processes and lessons learnt.

We were able therefore to install the larger facility in much less time.

Matt Summers, Project Manager at Shine, oversaw the delivery of the £1,086,095.00 project . The original GWP specification and designs remained the core of the installation with Shine working with the client team and the operator Host Catering to ensure that their operational style could be accommodated.

The Shine team were the manufacturers of the foodservices counters within the canteen which were complete with stone finishe s as well as complete design and fit-out of the kitchen areas.

Using equipment from leading manufacturers, Shine installed Rational combi ovens, Ambach cooking suites, Fosters cold stores and cabinets, Meiko dishwashers, Halton canopies and EAIS shelving.

Matt Summers said; “ The project at Bridgwater was a great job to work on, and we’re really pleased with the finished result. There were some challenges in terms of programme slipping to fall in line with other major installations we had booked in, however we were able to overcome these with good time management and our engineers who worked around the clock in order to ensure the project was finished on time.Credit really should go to them as they made this possible with minimal snags towards handover. Our supply chain really dug in as well to get this one over the line.”
