EDF Energy Hinkley Point Power Station

Shine Food Machinery recently completed a full fit-out of the
canteen area of the EDF Energy power station at Hinkley Point in Somerset.

As the UK’s largest producer of low-carbon electricity and the
biggest electricity supplier to British businesses, EDF Energy required a
quality canteen area which could serve their many staff.

Shine commenced the project in 2017 and were requested
to produce all services drawings in Revit for what was to be a BIM installation. Full kitchen walk throughs were produced by Shine in house designers to
enable the client to envisage the final installation. Laing O’Rourke,
being the main contractor, targeted a nine week installation period and Shine
were tasked to meet this deadline within the agreed budget

Matt Summers, Project Manager at Shine, oversaw the delivery of
the £858,484.00 project, working closely with the client to ensure that all of
their needs and requirements were met.

The Shine team were the manufacturers of the foodservices
counters within the canteen which were complete with stone finishes, and also
installed the cold rooms and remote refrigeration, as well as complete design
and fit-out of the kitchen areas.

Using equipment from leading manufacturers, Shine installed
Rational combi ovens, Ambach cooking suites, Fosters coldstores and cabinets,
Meiko dishwashers, Halton canopies and EAIS shelving.

Matt said: “This was a great project for both myself and the
Shine team to work on. We did hit a few manufacturing issues with turn around
times being so tight, but to overcome this we targeted room handovers to other
areas in order to release some pressure from our supply chain and to keep the
project on time.By implementing this strategy, we were pleased to deliver the
back of house kitchens weeks before the handover date, which was a real
achievement, and finishing the entire project on time.”
